Congressman Ryan Applauds Increased Benefits for 2.3 Million Ohio Children through the Expanded and Improved Child Tax Credit

April 30, 2021
Press Release

Washington, DC  — Congressman Tim Ryan (OH-13) today applauds newly released data collected by Co-Equal detailing the benefits of the expanded Child Tax Credit (CTC) passed as part of the American Rescue Plan Act. The tax credit will benefit over 2.3 million children in Ohio and 137,000 children in the 13th Congressional District and will be transformative for working families and their children, lifting millions out of poverty.

“These monthly payments are going to be life changing for working families in my Congressional District and across the state of Ohio. They will help hard-working families make ends meet and to be able to put more money towards food, childcare, health services, clothing, and other essentials for qualifying families,” said Congressman Ryan

“We need to ensure that these changes become permanent as we work to lift generations of children out of poverty and help working and middle-class families with the financial resources they need to take care of each other,” added Congressman Ryan

The Child Tax Credit was expanded and improved in the American Rescue Plan based on key provisions from the American Family Act. All families who qualify will receive the same monthly payments, $250 per month per child age 6-17, and $300 per month for every young child under the age of six.

Advance payments of the 2021 Child Tax Credit will be made regularly from July through December to eligible taxpayers. The increased amounts are reduced (phased out), for incomes over $150,000 for married taxpayers filing a joint return and qualifying widows or widowers, $112,500 for heads of household, and $75,000 for all other taxpayers.
