Press Release

Akron, Ohio – Congressman Tim Ryan (OH-13) today announced that Child Guidance & Family Solutions of Summit County has received $1,399,07 in federal funding. This Mental Health and Substance Abuse Service Grant was awarded by the Center for Mental Health Services.

Ryan is Co-Chair of the Addiction, Treatment, and Recovery Caucus in the U.S. House of Representatives.

“I want to congratulate Karen Talbott and the entire staff at Child Guidance & Family Solutions of Summit County for being awarded these important funds,” said Congressman Ryan. “Every member of our community should have access to the mental health treatment and assistance they need. I am proud to continue to use my position to ensure all our friends and neighbors are able to receive the best care available.”

“We are extremely appreciative of these federal funds being awarded to us in Summit County,” said Karen Talbott, President and CEO of Child Guidance & Family Solutions.“They will allow Child Guidance & Family Solutions to offer cutting edge treatment modalities such as Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy through enhanced staff competencies.  The funds will also be used to obtain therapeutic supplies to assist with creative therapeutic interventions when talk therapy is not the most effective treatment modality for a child.  The grant award will also enable us to place a significant emphasis on overall employee mental well-being such as training to reduce the amount of burnout and compassion fatigue that so often can occur in the mental health field.”

The Center for Mental Health Services works to strengthen the nation’s mental health system by helping states improve and increase the quality and range of their treatment, rehabilitation, and support. CMHS leads the federal efforts in promoting the prevention and treatment of mental disorders and bring new hope to adults who have serious mental illness and children with emotional disorders.
