Congressman Tim Ryan Announces $1.4 Million for Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport
Washington, DC – Congressman Tim Ryan (OH-13) today announced a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) grant award from the U.S. Department of Transportation DOT) to the Western Reserve Port Authority in the amount of $1,447,140 to acquire snow removal equipment and construct a snow removal equipment building at the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport.
“The Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport has served the Mahoning Valley in so many ways, and I am happy to announce this grant that will provide the airport with the building and equipment necessary for safe operation regardless of the weather,” said Congressman Ryan. “As home to the Youngstown Air Reserve Station (YARS), I will always work hard to ensure that the airport and the men and women who work and serve there have the tools necessary to do their jobs efficiently and safely.”
“I want to thank the Federal Aviation Administration for providing us this money to upgrade the equipment we use to clear our runways and adequately house our equipment,” said John Moliterno, Executive Director of the Western Reserve Port Authority. “I also want to thank Congressman Tim Ryan for his continued assistance with the Port Authority and the regional airport. We will now have the necessary funding to adequately house our equipment and to do a site study to ensure that our runway approaches are obstacle free for the safety of those who fly in and out of the airport.”
This grant is funded by the CARES Act of 2020 and increases the Federal share of the grant to 100 percent. This funding will provide a multitasking broom and blower to enhance the airport's ability to clear the airfield during adverse weather conditions and will provide the money to construct a 4,122 square foot building to house the snow removal equipment.
