Congressman Tim Ryan Announces $210,000 DOC Grant Award to Eastgate Regional Council of Governments
Washington, DC - Congressman Tim Ryan (OH-13) today announced a grant of $210,000 to be awarded to Eastgate Regional Council of Governments from the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration. The grant, part of the EDA Chicago Regional Office’s Partnership Planning program, will assist Eastgate with leading the collaborative effort of creating and implementing the district’s Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS). The CEDS involves partnerships across sectors and focuses on advancing actions in the following areas: Workforce Training & Education; Innovation & Entrepreneurship; Access to Capital; Infrastructure & Site Development; Industry & Business Climate; and Quality of Life and Community Vitality. In addition, this funding allows Eastgate to offer technical assistance to communities and organizations in the region that are looking to apply for federal funding.
“This grant is a key example of what work can be done when the public and private sector come together to enhance the economic well-being of the community. Investments, such as this, mutually benefit all parties involved and we should encourage more of these partnerships in the future,” said Congressman Ryan. “Eastgate understands the value of partnerships as they are working closely with local economic development organizations like the Port Authority and Chamber as well as representatives from philanthropy. This grant allows us to continue to align efforts to create a favorable environment for both business development and a pathway to prosperity for residents of Mahoning, Trumbull, and Ashtabula Counties. Together, we can build upon our past successes and continue the economic resurgence in our region.”
“The Partnership Planning Grant from EDA allows Eastgate to carry out its role as a leader and convener in the area of economic and community development in the region. It is our role to research trends in our local economy and work with our partners to address challenges and develop solutions. We are looking forwarded to strengthening the CEDS and have seen a notable increase in requests for technical assistance for economic development projects in our communities. Eastgate appreciates the support of our local, state, and federal leadership and will continue to work on data-based solutions to help diversify our local economy and create opportunity for our residents,” said Genna Petrolla, Economic Development Program Manager, Eastgate Regional Council of Governments.
According to the EDA’s “Notice of Investment Award,” this EDA planning investment supports the development and implementation of a comprehensive economic development strategy (CEDS) for the region served by the Eastgate Regional Council of Governments, which comprises the counties of Ashtabula, Mahoning, and Trumbull. The CEDS process is designed to bring together the public and private sectors in the creation of an economic development roadmap to diversify and strengthen the regional economy.
