Congressman Tim Ryan Announces $400,000 to Expand COVID-19 Testing in Mahoning Valley
Washington, DC – Congressman Tim Ryan (OH-13) today announced a $436,324 grant to the Ohio North East Health System, Inc., a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in Youngstown, Ohio, to expand their capacity for coronavirus testing.
“Expanding our testing capabilities is the only way we are going be able to keep Ohioans safe as we re-open businesses in our community,” said Congressman Tim Ryan. “I am proud to be able to use my position in Congress to help secure this vital funding and will continue to work to ensure that Northeast Ohio gets the resources and support it needs to combat this pandemic.”
This funding, provided by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), is part of approximately $583 million distributed across the nation to increase the ability to prevent and respond to the COVID-19 health crisis by expanding the capacity to test for the virus.
The funding for this grant originated in the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, passed in late March and supported by Congressman Ryan. The legislation provided $172 billion for health professionals to purchase medical supplies and care for patients diagnosed with COVID-19.
