Congressman Tim Ryan Announces $67,071 for Mahoning Valley’s Ohio North East Health Systems
Youngstown, OH — Congressman Tim Ryan (OH-13) today announces $67,071 from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to be awarded to Ohio North East Health Systems, Inc. under the FY 2020 Coronavirus Supplemental Funding for Health Centers. HHS is providing this one-time funding to support health centers in preventing, preparing for, and responding to the coronavirus. This money will assist in performing outreach services, provide patient and community-wide education on preventing, containing or mitigating COVID-19 and other respiratory illnesses, and administer COVID-19 therapeutics and vaccines when available.
"I'm am pleased to see this federal investment to the Ohio North East Health Systems, which is a federally qualified community health center that serves the uninsured and underinsured in the Mahoning Valley," said Congressman Ryan. "The coronavirus does not discriminate on who it impacts, it is our job to ensure care is available to everyone who needs it, regardless of income.”
Other activities allowed by the Department of Health and Human Services under this grant include the expansion of COVID screening and testing capacity, reviewing and updating emergency operations plans, hiring and contracting with new providers or other personnel to increase services, and designating separate space to screen patients prior to entering communal areas of the health center so that those who may be infected with COVID-19 can be isolated.
