Congressman Tim Ryan Applauds $1 Million Battery Manufacturing Partnership Between YSU and U.S. Department of Energy
Washington, DC – Congressman Tim Ryan (OH-13) today applauds the announcement that the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) will partner with Youngstown State University to develop an Energy Storage Workforce Innovation Center to further educate and develop the clean energy workforce in Northeast Ohio. This $1 million project is a much-anticipated pipeline for the battery and EV manufacturing industry that has come to define Voltage Valley.
“This partnership is a great example of how government can work to bolster efforts on the ground in our community to dominate in the clean energy economy. The electric energy industry is not only a major key to reigniting American competitiveness but also to reigniting our workforce here in Northeast Ohio,” said Congressman Tim Ryan. “With Lordstown Motors, BRITE Energy Innovators, the GM-LG Chem Battery Plant, and Youngstown State, and others – our region is leading the world in creating the energy of the future and putting Voltage Valley on the map."
The project is sponsored by DOE’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy’s Vehicle Technologies Office and the Advanced Manufacturing Office. It’s part of a Department-wide effort to accelerate innovation across a range of storage technologies and develop a skilled workforce based on three concepts: Innovate Here, Make Here, and Deploy Everywhere.
