Congressman Tim Ryan Reacts to Biden Administration’s Announced Plan on China Trade Policy
Youngstown, OH – Congressman Tim Ryan (OH-13) today released the following statement in response to the Biden Administration’s China Trade Policy Plan. In a speech today, United States Trade Representative (USTR) Katherine Tai outlined the Biden Administration’s vision for U.S.-China Trade Policy. USTR Tai’s full speech can be read here.
“China is the number one economic threat to the United States. I applaud the Biden Administration for making this threat a priority in their agenda, and for recognizing the need for a strategic plan to tackle these challenging issues. Additionally, I’m pleased that the Biden Administration is emphasizing the need to reinvest in domestic manufacturing, supply chains, and job training in order for the U.S. to be competitive against China.
“But I’m concerned this strategy doesn’t go far enough to hold China accountable and to protect American jobs. I call on the Biden Administration to provide additional information and concrete steps they plan to take moving forward to keep China in check while protecting our economic interests. You don’t have to look far to see the direct impact bad trade practices have had on communities like ours in Ohio, and I don’t care whose party is in control of the White House, I will continue to fight like hell to ensure that we are standing up to China and protecting American jobs,” said Congressman Tim Ryan.
