Congressman Tim Ryan Speaks Directly to President Biden About Delphi
Columbus, Ohio – Congressman Tim Ryan (OH-13) spoke directly with President Joe Biden yesterday about the Delphi salaried retiree pension issue following his ‘Help is Here’ event at the James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute in Columbus.
“I had the opportunity yesterday to have a private conversation with President Biden about the continued injustice that Delphi Salaried Retirees face. I advocated that the Delphi salaried retirees should be made whole and urged him to have his Administration work with us to restore their earned benefits. President Biden was familiar with the situation and told me he wants to help. I will continue working with my colleagues in Congress and with the White House on this issue,” said Rep. Tim Ryan.
In 2009, the PBGC terminated the pensions of the salaried employees of Delphi. The salaried retirees suffered significant losses to their earned benefits. After over a decade of lawsuits, salaried retirees are still left without their full pensions.
Prior to speaking with President Biden at the ‘Help is Here’ event, Ryan testified yesterday morning on behalf of Delphi Salaried Retirees before the powerful House Ways and Means Committee. This Committee has jurisdiction over all taxation, tariffs, and other revenue-raising measures, as well as a number of other programs including Social Security, Pensions, Medicare, and other social services programs.
