Congressman Tim Ryan Statement on Meeting with GM CEO Mary Barra
Washington, DC – Congressman Tim Ryan (OH-13) issued the following statement regarding his meeting with General Motors (GM) CEO Mary Barra about updates on the Lordstown plant:
“I appreciate Mary Barra for coming to DC to provide updates to me and my Ohio colleagues on the Lordstown plant. It was disheartening to hear her express pessimism about ever putting a new GM car back in the facility, but she did share her confidence in plans for selling the plant to an electric vehicle company. There’s still a lot of unanswered questions that need to be addressed before I can feel confident that the new buyer for the plant will end up providing as many jobs as GM Lordstown once did when it was running three shifts. As I’ve said from the beginning, I remain committed to ensuring that we get the plant back up and running with good-paying jobs, and I’ll help anywhere possible throughout this process. I will continue to work with GM, potential new buyers and UAW to prioritize the needs of our workers and community,” said Congressman Ryan.
