Congressman Tim Ryan Offers Support to Standing Rock Sioux

Nov 29, 2016

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Tim Ryan (D-OH) released the following statement in support of the water protectors at Standing Rock:

“I offer my full support to the Standing Rock water protectors and their right as American citizens to peacefully protest. The First Amendment is a sacred promise to our citizens that cannot be broken and must continue to be defended. But water cannons and rubber bullets should not be used against Americans who had peacefully assembled. I call on the Justice Department to investigate these actions to determine if excessive force was used against American citizens and to ensure that no rights are violated moving forward.

“Further, the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe has every right to want assurance that their drinking water will remain safe. The U.S. Government must sit down with the Standing Rock Sioux, listen to their legitimate concerns, and reach an agreement that is acceptable to all parties.”
