Congressman Tim Ryan Statement on Mueller Investigation Development

Oct 30, 2017

Washington, DC – Congressman Tim Ryan released the following statement after news that former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort and associate Rick Gates have been ordered to surrender to federal custody today. Former Trump campaign adviser George Papadopoulos was also revealed to have plead guilty to lying to the FBI about his knowledge of Russian attempts to collude with the Trump Campaign.

“This morning’s indictments by Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller only further highlights the seriousness of this ongoing investigation. There is no doubt that the credibility of the United States has already been tarnished by revelations of high-level corruption and malintent from senior Trump campaign advisors. Today’s developments underscore the critical nature of Mueller’s work in restoring faith in our democratic institutions, and the need for it to continue unimpeded at all costs. Any move by the Trump Administration or Congressional Republicans to interfere with or derail the investigation would trigger a constitutional crisis, the likes of which we haven’t seen since Richard Nixon,” said Congressman Ryan.
