Feb. 8, 2010: Congressman Ryan Releases Statement on Death of John Murtha

February 8, 2010
Press Release

Warren, Ohio – U.S. Congressman Tim Ryan (OH-17) made the following statement regarding the death of Congressman John Murtha:

“This is a very sad day, indeed.  To our nation, Congressman John Murtha was a bold leader and renowned legislator: a trusted advisor to Presidents and a powerful advocate for issues of national defense.  To his constituents in southwestern Pennsylvania, Congressman Murtha was a tireless champion: generating tens of thousands of jobs after the collapse of the coal and steel industries that helped to sustain middle-class families and advance a diversified economic base.  To me, Jack Murtha was an advisor, a mentor, and most importantly – a friend.  He was a fiery man of principle who fought passionately for his district and the hard-working people of our region; I consider myself to be a better legislator and advocate for having known him, and for that I will be forever grateful.”
